Two experienced Swedes solidify Slovan’s blueline

HC SLOVAN Bratislava have secured the contracts of two Swedish defenceman, both with NHL experience for the their inaugural season in the KHL, and are delighted to welcome both Josef Boumedienne and David Printz to the club.

Josef Boumedienne (born 12^th January 1978 in Stockholm, Sweden) has had an incredibly successful career, with hundreds of games under his belt in both the Swedish Elitserien and the Finnish SM-Liiga. Boumedienne has also had extensive experience of the North American circuit, where he played 47 NHL games for the Tampa Bay Lightning and Washington Capitals, as well as a further 295 games in the AHL for a variety of clubs. However Boumedienne, born to an Algerian father and Finnish mother has made his mark in Scandinavian hockey. The defenceman won the SM-Liiga championship twice with Kärpät Oulu in 2004/5 and 2006/7, and even made the SM-Liiga all-star team in the 2004/5. Last season saw Boumedienne split time between the two premier Scandinavian leagues, as he began the season with Djurgården, where he had an impressive 17 points in 36 games from the blueline. At the end of the transfer window, he made the move to Helsinki, where he played for Jokerit and won a bronze medal in the SM-Liiga. The Swedish born defenceman already has experience of the KHL, as he made 17 appearances for Dynamo Minsk in 2009, before making the switch to EV Zug in the Swiss NLA. Boudmedienne is an offensive defenceman with an impressive shot and a great ability to lead the rush from the back. Most of all, he should be a great addition to the powerplay.

The second of the Swedish defencemen signed by HC SLOVAN is David Printz (born 24^th July 1980 in Stockholm, Sweden), who has signed after a number of successful seasons in the Elitserien with Djurgården IF. His style of play contrasts with that of Boumedienne, as Printz is more of a defensive defenceman, and uses his large frame (193 cm/100 kg) to his advantage. Printz started his career with AIK in his native Stockholm, but after a brief sojourn in Finland, made the move across the Atlantic to Philadelphia, where he was drafted in the 7^th round by the Philadelphia Flyers (225^th overall) in 2001. Printz made 13 appearances in the NHL for the Flyers, whilst playing in 192 games for their AHL affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms. Printz returned to Europe in 2007 and signed with one of Europe’s most famous clubs, Djurgården IF, and has made over 250 appearances for the Stockholm based club over the past five seasons, with him leading his team to the Elitserien finals two seasons ago.

The two Swedish defencemen join HC SLOVAN with vast amounts of experience gained in the top European and North American leagues, and they are warmly welcomed by HC SLOVAN, who wish them all the best, on this their next step on their great careers.

У Йозефа Бумедьена очень успешная карьера с сотнями матчей в шведской Элитной серии и финской СМ-лиге. У Йозефа есть и опыт в североамериканском хоккее, он провел 47 матчей за команды НХЛ «Тампа Бэй Лайтнинг», «Нью-Джерси Девилз» и «Вашингтон Кэпиталз», а также в 259 матчах представлял разные клубы АХЛ. Однако большое впечатление Бумедьен произвел именно в скандинавском хоккее. С «Кярпятом» он дважды выиграл СМ-лигу в 2005-ом, когда в команде был много звёзд, и в 2007-ом годах. В прошлом же сезоне Йозеф успел поиграть сразу в двух лигах. Начинал сезон в «Югордине», набрав в 36-и матчах 17 (2+15) очков, а перед закрытием трансферного окна перебрался в «Йокерит», с которым выиграл бронзу СМ-лиги. Швед успел поиграть и в КХЛ, в 2009 году он выходил на лёд в форме минского «Динамо», пока после 17 матчей не перешёл в швейцарский «Цуг». Бумедьена — атакующий защитник с внушительным броском, он должен быть очень полезен при игре в большинстве.

Второй швед — защитник Дэвид Принц (родился 24.08.1980 в Стокгольме, Швеция), проведший несколько успешных лет в шведском «Югордине», прежде чем подписать контракт со «Слованом». Дэвида можно назвать противоположностью Бумедьену, он скорее защитник-домосед, грамотно использующий свои внушительные габариты (193 см/100 кг). Принц начинал карьеру в ХК АИК из родного Стокгольма, а потом, недолго поиграв в Финляндии, махнул через Атлантику в Филадельфию, где был выбран нхловской «Филадельфией Флайерз» в 7-ом раунде (общий 225-й номер) драфта НХЛ. За «лётчиков» Принц сыграл лишь 13 раз, а вот за их фарм-клуб, команду АХЛ «Филадельфия Фантомс» провел 192 игры. В 2007 году Дэвид вернулся в Европу и подписал контракт с одним из самых известных клубов Европы «Югордином», за который впоследствии отыграл 292 матча за пять сезонов.

Теперь эти шведские защитники с опытом игры в лучших европейских и североамериканских лигах присоединяются к «Словану». И клуб, конечно же, желает им больших успехов на новом этапе карьеры.
