Matej Paulovič

Position: Forward
Handedness: Right
Born: 13th January 1995
Height: 190 cm
Weight: 80 kg
Junior team: HC Topoľčany
Current team: BK Färjestad Juniors (Sweden)
National team: U17, U18

HC SLOVAN looked overseas for their fourth round selection in the 2012 KHL Draft (131st overall), as they drafted tall forward Matej Paulovič, who is currently playing in Sweden for Färjestad. Paulovič is another product from the HC Topoľčany junior program, and after a cameo with HK Nitra, Paulovič made the brave step to try his luck overseas, and secured a place with Swedish Elitserien club BK Färjestad’s junior program.
Paulovič had an successful season in 2010-2011 with HC Topoľčany in the U-18 Extraliga, as he scored 62 points (33+29) in 42 games, where he clearly showed that he has an eye for the net. On his move to Sweden, Paulovič played at a number of different levels, with him finding his niche in the J18 Elit, which is the highest level of Under-18 competition, where he scored 28 points in 17 games. He couldn’t transfer this form into the SuperElit, which is the equivalent of the U-20 Extraliga in Slovakia, but with a contract in place with Färjestad for next season, look for Paulovič to make his mark in that league this season.
Paulovič was one of the unsung heroes on the Slovakia-18 side which won promotion from the IIHF Division 1 Under-18 World Championships, as he played an important part of the promotion back to the elite division, especially showing the defensive side to his game.

Patrik Koyš

Position: Forward

Handedness: Left
Born: 24th October 1995
Height: 183 cm
Weight: 83 kg
Junior team: HK Dubnica/HK Dukla Trenčín
Current team: HK Dukla Trenčín
National team: U17, U18

Patrik Koyš, who is only sixteen years of age, was HC SLOVAN’s final pick in the 2012 KHL Draft (165th overall), and he made it a grand slam of forward selected by HC SLOVAN in their inaugural KHL draft. Koyš is one of the most highly touted Slovakian prospects, and has racked up the points at every level he has competed at.

Koyš, a youngster with very good size for his age originally played for the HK Dubnica side, making his debut in the U-18 1.liga at just 13 years of age, scoring 12 points in 8 games against players almost five years older than him. Following their promotion to the U-18 Extraliga in 2009. Koyš played a leading role in 2009-2010, as he scored 52 points in 48 games in the U-18 Extraliga, before making the switch to leading Extraliga side HK Dukla Trenčín in the summer of 2010. Koyš scored 73 points (34+39) in his first season with HK Dukla Trenčín in the U-18 Extraliga, before playing in the U-20 Extraliga in 2011-2012, where the skilled forward racked up 28 points (9+19) in 29 games. Koyš made the jump up to the higher level at just sixteen years of age following an incredible start to the season with the U-18 side, where he scored 28 points (9+19) in just 12 games.
At just sixteen years of age, it has been difficult for Koyš to make his mark on the international stage as of yet, but he did appear for the Slovakia U-18 side in Piešťany. For now it remains unclear whether or not Koyš will make the jump over to Canada to play in the CHL, but he is a part of HC SLOVAN’s plans for the future, and remains in line of HC SLOVAN’s policy of bringing young, talented Slovakian prospects through the ranks.
