HC SLOVAN Bratislava recorded their second 3:2 shootout victory of the season against two time Gagarin Cup Champions on Saturday.
The crowd were on tenterhooks after a review process which took almost ten minutes after Mario Bližňák’s third period goal, but when the officials signalled that the goal would, the energy released by the sold out crowd seemed to enthuse the whole HC SLOVAN team. With some luck, HC SLOVAN managed to hold on and take Saturday’s game against Ak Bars to a shootout, where after Lipiansky scored with his shot to make it 1:1, Michal Vondrka amazed with a goal which will live long in the memeory. ‘I was trying to atone for the previous game. While on the bench I already knew what I was going to do to Barulin. I tried it on him already in Kazan, where I missed’.
‘The Forsberg’, as it has commonly come to be known, is not an easy skill to master. Forsberg, who scored his goal at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer amazed when he deked netminder Corey Hirsch and almost rolled the puck in one handed. ‘It is necessary to get the goalie to get out of position on my forehand, and then with one hand slide the puck near to your left foot. I was also lucky because when I had the puck at the end of my stick and pushed it with one hand, I felt Barulin’s skate was still there. It was tough, but it came out well’.
