Slovan put pressure on hosts Ugra right from the start, wish Gelashvili kept busy in goal by efforts from Jeglič and Nagy. Further chances came in our first powerplay, a strong shot from Francis Paré wrongfooting the goaltender, while Ivan Švarný shot soon after from between the circles. In the 13th minute, Paré got through alone on goal, but shot at Gelašvili on the turn. The home team then had a powerplay after Sersen's foul, and created chances, but Garnett kept them out. Skokan's penalty late in the period again handed the advantage to Ugra, but the game remained goalless at the break
In the 21st minute, Kalashnikov did a fine exchange with Bortnikov, but a reflex save from Garnett kept the puck out. A minute later, Cam Barker got into a great scoring position, but could only hit the post with his shot. Slovan then played their third powerplay, in which Sersen came closest with a shot at Gelashvili's pads. Soon after, Nagy received a nice pass from Višňovský, and shot into the top corner to give Slovan the lead - 0:1. A similar chance fell again to Nagy three minutes later, but this time Gelashvili managed to deflect it. With Slovan shorthanded, Kašpar managed to break, but was stopped by a foul when about to finish. Just before the second siren, with Slovan looking to take a lead into the break, Ugra broke away, and Panov delivered the punishment – 1:1.
Early in the third period, Paré skated brilliantly to the Ugra net, but once again his finishing let him down. In the 50th minute, Slovan surged froward with a two-on-one overlap, Lušňák fed Dávid Skokan, and the latter put Slovan ahead again - 1:2. The hosts had a chance to equalize immediately, but Garnett again pulled off a vital save. The closing minutes saw the home team pile on heavy pressure, with Garnett's net peppered with shots. Ugra pulled the goalie to try it with six, but it was Slovan, in the shape of Miklík, who added a third to crown a pleasing away win 1:3.
Miloš Říha: We played a good game. It's just a shame we didn't score more with the chances we created. But we handled the tactical side well, and deserved to win. A win to start off a tough road trip is very positive.
