The game in Vienna was even right from the start. The superb Janus shone in the 12th minute, miraculously stopping Schweda’s shot. At the other end, Richard Mráz had a chance to put Slovan in the lead, but goaltender Zaba kept him out. The hosts eventually took the lead 42 seconds from the end of the first period, Kevin Puschnik the scorer – 1:0
After the break, Vienna doubled their lead, Nikalaus Hartl capitalizing from a fast move. Slovan got back into the game in the powerplay which followed, Tomáš Mojžíš finishing off after a shot from Ölvecký. But the goal failed to get Slovan going, and Francois Fortier’s goal four minutes later restored the two-goal advantage. Rafael Rotter finished beautifully from a breakaway to seal the 4:1 victory for the Capitals.
Despite the defeat, with 7 points Slovan sits in 1st place in the South Division of the European Trophy. Next week the “Sky Blues” play in Finland, first in Jyväskylä against JYP, then in Kuopio on Saturday, against KalPe.
