The Baltic sea-side city of Gdansk seems to be the most promising expansion of KHL to the West from the next season.
A committee of experts from the Kontinental Hockey League has visited Gdansk and conducted an inspection of the infrastructure of the city and its new hockey club, which has submitted an official application to join the League next season.
The committee is satisfied that the city meets the required European standards for hotels, logistics and roads, and that the new 11,000-seater multi-purpose ERGO Arena, after a few finishing touches, will meet the standards demanded by the KHL.
The club’s finances and its ability to assemble a roster of players are still under discussion, and all the information on the project submitted by the Gdansk club will be subjected to detailed analysis by the relevant KHL specialists.
