The first period started on Slovan's terms, as Nagy threatened in the opening seconds. He skated behind the net, but ended up unable to finish off. But when Nedorost went to the sin bin in the 4th minute, the Sky Blues were forced to defend. Amur created just the one real chance, when Vladimir Ushenin made Garnett produce the save. Slovan were then the more active team, and played a powerplay from the 10th minute, but failed to convert any of several shots. A major chance to open the scoring came in the 16th minute, when Metsola parried Starosta's shot onto the glass and the puck fell back into play, but Skokan and Jeglič couldn't combine to put the puck in the net. Jeglič was again denied in the 19th, this time shooting straight from a face-off. Just before the first siren, Vandella was presented with a dead cert during four-on-four play, but his aim was off when facing Garnett. That marked just the third shot for the visitors, while Slovan had 22.
The second period also began with activity from the home team, and Sersen let fly a fierce effort, but he too was denied, as was Nagy soon after. The latter then gave away a needless penalty in the 26th, and the Sky Blues were once again on the back foot. But Amur made little of the advantage, and ended up having the defend themselves for the last half minute. Slovan likewise wasted their own powerplay, and so the wait for a goal continued. The visitors could have stolen the lead when Garnett skated out for the puck and lost it to an attacker, who pushed the puck in front of goal, but the defense handled the danger. The middle period then stuttered along to the second siren, Slovan again outshooting their opponents, but still with nothing to show for it.
In the third period, Slovan were left to rue their earlier missed chances. In the 44th minute, Khabarovsk failed to convert when five-on-three, but then made a one-man advantage count. In the 44th, Vandell got the crucial touch on a shot from the blue line, and the visitors had the lead - 0:1. The hosts tried hard to restore parity in the remainder of the game, Bartovič shooting from between the circles in the 48th, but the excellent Metsola stood in his way. Amur then threw everything into defence, and quickly neutralised any threats. They also threatened on the break in the 52nd, but Slovak stalwart Michel Miklík failed to convert.
